Meru: Health facilities in Meru County are set to be equipped with more drugs after the flagging off of Sh28.9 million medical supplies by Governor Isaac Mutuma.
According to Kenya News Agency, the consignment delivered by Mission for Essential Drugs Supplies (MEDS) is a targeted injection of health and hope to the residents of Meru and other neighbouring counties, who seek medical attention in the area. "The consignment contains pharmaceuticals, non-pharmaceuticals, laboratory reagents, X-ray materials, and dental items, the essential tools our healthcare professionals need to save lives and keep our families healthy," Governor Mutuma stated.
The governor emphasized that the supplies will be taken directly to where they are needed most, while ensuring that the main health facility, the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, is bolstered with supplies worth more than Sh5.7 million. He outlined that the remaining supplies will be distributed across six of the sub-counties including Igembe South (Sh6.4 million), Imenti South (Sh5.2 million), Tigania West (Sh4.6 million), Imenti Central (Sh2.8 million), Tigania East (Sh2.7 million), and Tigania Central (Sh1.3 million).
Governor Mutuma added that the remaining sub-counties including Igembe Central, Igembe North, Buuri East, Buuri West, and Imenti North will receive their Sh11.1 million consignment which is being processed by MEDS. "We will not rest until every single health facility in every corner of Meru is equipped to serve our people," Mutuma declared. He further mentioned that in the current financial year alone, his administration has procured medicines and medical supplies worth Sh68 million, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring that no one suffers due to a lack of basic medical supplies.
Titus Munene, head of commercial services at MEDS, stated that they have all drugs for all illnesses including cancer and are ready to partner with Meru County to ensure consistent supplies. "We have standard drugs, whose quality has been approved by World Health Organisation (WHO) and we are more than ready to continue supplying them to this and all other counties within the country," Munene said. He added that in fulfilment of their strategic plan, MEDS is in the process of building a branch in Meru County and a factory in Kisumu County, which will help lower the cost of drugs supplied in the country.
