Post: Mouhoun/Strengthening Maternal and Neonatal Health: NGO Aide   l’©glise Norv©gienne Provides Medical Equipment to D©dougou Health District

Mouhoun: On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the D©dougou health district received a substantial batch of medical equipment funded by the Regional Humanitarian Fund for West and Central Africa (FHRAOC), facilitated through the NGO Aide   l'©glise Norv©gienne (AEN). This donation is intended to bolster the technical capabilities of health facilities and enhance care quality, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the delivery of medical-technical equipment by AEN is an integral part of the project titled "Response to the crisis through integrated GBV and SRH protection services for displaced and host communities in the communes of Tougan, Nouna, and Lanfiera in the Boucle du Mouhoun region." This multi-sectoral project, implemented by AEN and IPBF since November 2024, is financed by FHRAOC.

The equipment provided comprises essential items for delivery rooms and maternity wards to strengthen the technical skills of healthcare providers and ensure optimal care for pregnant women and newborns. The donation includes four delivery tables, four examination tables, eight electronic blood pressure monitors, twenty postpartum mattresses, a resuscitation table for newborns, four autoclaves, delivery and caesarean boxes, IUD insertion boxes, MVA kits, and portable lamps, with a total value of 8,220,000 CFA francs.

The selection of the D©dougou health district as a beneficiary was due to the high influx of displaced individuals in the commune, necessitating the enhancement of health services for this vulnerable population. Upon receiving the equipment, the head doctor of the D©dougou health district, Nathalie Ouad©ba, expressed that the equipment strengthens the technical platform and addresses significant needs within their structures. "We will distribute it according to the needs of health facilities, and it will contribute to improving the quality of the services offered to the population," she stated, expressing gratitude to the partner and advocating for the responsible use of the materials.

According to the AEN mission head, Alhousseyni Morba, needs for medical-technical equipment were identified during monitoring missions in health facilities to ensure adequate provision of SSR services. With the increasing demand for SSR services in the project region, the reinforcement of healthcare structures with medical-technical equipment is essential to continuously provide quality services. "This support will help ensure services comply with standards, reduce risks associated with care through suitable and functional equipment, and facilitate the work of our healthcare professionals in better conditions," Morba explained.

Further training on DMU/SR and SONU, as well as clinical management of GBV cases, is planned for health workers in the D©dougou District. Additional funding will support this initiative through the deployment of midwives and address existing gaps.

The NGO Norwegian Church Aid AEN/NCA, operating in Burkina Faso since December 2020 with funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), has extended its interventions to various regions thanks to additional funding from FHRAOC, UNFPA, and Sahel Facility. The NGO focuses on combating GBV, improving access to water and sanitation, promoting sexual and reproductive health, fostering peace and social cohesion, and ensuring food security.
