Manga: The special delegation of the municipality of Manga organized a reforestation operation that resulted in the planting of more than 200 plants along the main arteries of the city.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the Manga communal special delegation, Borenger Bihoun, highlighted that species such as acacia, false cola tree, cailcedrat, and red flamboyant tree were chosen for their resilience and adaptation to the local climate.
The event, dubbed "Communal Tree Day," is part of the 2025 national reforestation campaign and saw the participation of several municipal actors, including environmental service agents and city residents. Mr. Bihoun stated that this initiative aligns with a call from the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, and the Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo, urging municipalities to undertake at least two kilometers of alignment planting in urban areas.
Julien Ou©draogo, the High Commissioner of the Zoundw©ogo province, presided over the ceremony, acknowledging the significant action taken by the municipality. He emphasized that regreening Manga can enhance the health and well-being of its inhabitants. The provincial director of Water and Forests of Zoundw©ogo, Lieutenant-Colonel Adama Kalmogo 2nd twin, noted that trees purify the air, beautify the landscape, and generate a refreshing microclimate.
The town hall has planned to install protective grilles to ensure the young plants' survival, with Bihoun stressing the importance of citizen involvement in maintaining the plants. Residents were urged to participate actively in this effort, as municipal stakeholders will require their support.
Lieutenant Colonel Kalmogo also requested that households keep their animals tied to prevent them from damaging the new plantations, applauding the municipal police's efforts to address this issue.
The ceremony's sponsors, represented by Emile Nikiema, expressed their commitment to the project and promised ongoing support. Mr. Nikiema described the initiative as beneficial to both people and the environment, encouraging the community to embrace it.
The "communal tree day" in Manga, under the theme "Medicinal plants, sources of health and climate resilience for communities," also aims to inspire increased tree planting to combat environmental degradation and global warming.
