Post: MP Commissions Sh8 Million School Project in Mwea

Mwea: Learners at Kadawa Primary School in Mwea West Sub County, Kirinyaga County, are set to benefit from an Sh8 million infrastructure project commissioned by the Kirinyaga County Member of Parliament Jane Njeri Maina. The upgrade project will see the renovation of 5 classrooms to ultra-modern standards, fully equipped with lockers and seats for the learners. The pupils have been using old classrooms, which are not conducive for learning activities and a hazard to the health of the occupants.

According to Kenya News Agency, speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony at Kadawa Primary School, Ms. Njeri observed that through her Mama Na Kazi (MNK) Foundation, she is keen on transforming the lives of children through investing in school renovation projects while focusing on the neediest cases to ensure every child gets an equal chance of education. She added that as a legislator, she would continue lobbying for support from various organisations to invest in school renovation projects, emphasising that Mwea children, like other children across the country, were future leaders, hence the need to unlock their potential.

She also proposed that the South Ngariama area, within the Mwea constituency, be categorised as a hardship area and pupils in it be put on a school feeding programme considering its dry weather conditions. ‘South Ngariama is a hardship area, like other regions where pupils are given food and teachers get allowances; pupils and teachers of South Ngariama should not be left out. They do their best under these difficult conditions,’ Njeri said.

However, she noted that the greatest challenge the people of Kadawa and South Ngariama at large faced was insecurity and lauded the efforts of the chiefs in containing the situation that has escalated in the recent past. Njeri attributed the issue to land matters and lack of title deeds, sentiments that were echoed by Baragwi Member of County Assembly David Mathenge. They requested the government to give the resident title deeds for their land as soon as possible.
