Mahdia: The number of overnight stays in hotels in the governorate of Mahdia between January 1, 2024 and April 10 reached 70,116, up 26.5% compared with the same period last season.This positive trend was also seen in the average length of stay, which rose to 4.4 days, up 36.6% compared with the same period last season, Head of the Regional Tourism Authority in Mahdia Mohamed Boujdaria told TAP on Monday.Despite a 7.2% fall in the number of customers, the occupancy rate climbed by some 13.7%," said the same source.Traditional markets also recorded a sizeable increase, notably the British market (280%), followed by the German market (38.5%) and the French market (13.2%).A hotel will be reopened on May 1 after two years of refurbishment work, he pointed out, adding that a number of projects are nearing completion, including two travel agencies, five guest houses, two tourist restaurants and a tourist entertainment centre.The governorate of Mahdia counts 30 hotel units, with a capacity of 10,705 people .Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
