A march was staged on Thursday downtown Tunis by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and many political sensitivities in solidarity with the Palestinian people. In light of the atrocities and savage carnage perpetrated by the Zionist war machine against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, it is more than ever urgent to enact a law penalising any form of normalisation with Israel, Secretary General of the Workers' Party Hamma Hammami implored on the occasion. He described the massacres perpetrated by the Israeli army against unarmed innocents in the Gaza Strip and the massive and systematic destruction of overcrowded residential neighbourhoods as acts of war tantamount to "outright genocide" aimed at extirpating the Palestinian people from their land and wiping out their historical and legitimate rights to an independent state with the holy city of Al-Quds as its capital. This march of support and solidarity is an eloquent testimony to the unwavering support of Tunisians to the Palestinian cause which, he argued, will remain the major concern and the core issue of every conscience that believes in justice and freedom, he told TAP. While denouncing the deafening silence of the Arab regimes, He warned against the serious plans to "Transfer" and forcibly displace the Palestinian people in Gaza, considering that the "Flood of al-Aqsa" operation launched by the Palestinian resistance is an act of "self-defence" in retaliation for the incessant violations perpetrated by Israel. Hammami called for a massive mobilisation of the global media to challenge the Israeli version of events, as well as the flood of lies and untruths reported by Western media owned by Zionist lobbies, asserting that the Palestinian issue will forever remain engraved in the conscience of humanity. Speaking in turn, member of the UGTT Executive Committee Samir Cheffi vehemently denounced the position of the Arab League which, he regretted, testifies to the "defeatism" of several Arab regimes and their involvement in plans to normalise relations with the Zionist entity, warning against an international plan drawn up by the imperialist powers to exterminate the inhabitants of Gaza. While reaffirming the UGTT's unwavering support to the Palestinian cause, he pointed out that the rights of the Palestinian people are "non-negotiable" and that regimes that had normalised their relations with the Zionist entity had been promptly rejected by their peoples.
