Prime Minister meets UN Resident Coordinator to discuss achievement of SDGs

Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani discussed with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tunisia, Arnaud Peral, during a meeting at the Government Palace in the Kasbah on Wednesday, Tunisia's latest preparations to participate in the World Summit on Sustainable Development Goals, to be held in New York City in the second half of September, according to a statement from the Prime Ministry. Hachani underlined Tunisia's keenness to fulfil its commitments with a view to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This will be done through the inclusion of projects and programmes aimed at combating poverty and unemployment, reducing regional inequalities, the economic and social empowerment of women and youth, the protection of the environment in the face of climate change and the promotion of investment in renewable energy and priority sectors in the 2023-2025 development plan. For his part, the UN Resident Coordinator in Tunisia expressed his full willingness to continue to place the expertise of the UN specialised agencies at the disposal of the Tunisian State to assist it in implementing the necessary reforms and facing the various challenges. The UN official praised the launch of the Employment and Youth Fund in partnership with the UN, particularly as it provides an appropriate framework for coordinating the efforts of various stakeholders to accelerate economic development and create new opportunities for young people. This fund, the first of its kind in the world, will be a model and a success story that can be replicated in many other countries," the statement quoted him as saying.
