Post: Siaya Civil Servants Criticized for Skipping National Events

Siaya: Siaya County Commissioner (CC), Norbert Komora, has criticized local public servants for not attending national events in the region. Addressing the Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga stadium in Siaya town, Komora emphasized the importance of civil servants participating in national day celebrations alongside the public. He expressed that it is inappropriate for public officials to remain absent and relax at home, urging them to engage with the community and address their issues.

According to Kenya News Agency, Komora suggested that those unwilling to participate in public celebrations should consider resigning to make way for those committed to respecting government protocols. He mandated that departmental heads who missed the Mashujaa Day event must submit written explanations to his office. A senior administrative officer has been tasked with ensuring that the affected national government departments respond appropriately.

Additionally, Komora joined other Siaya leaders in expressing gratitude to President Dr. William Ruto and the government for honoring Raila Amollo Odinga from the county with a state burial. He praised the residents for their dignified conduct during the send-off in Bondo, highlighting the honor President Ruto bestowed by recognizing Odinga's contributions to the nation and beyond.

Komora also noted the government's investment of over Sh9.5 billion in various development projects in Siaya, including affordable housing, modern markets, stadium upgrades, and the modernization of the county referral hospital. Rev. Naftali Siwa, speaking at the event, urged leaders to use their positions to bring about change and address societal issues.

In a speech delivered by Alego - Usonga sub-county administrator, Vitalice Ochieng, on behalf of Siaya governor James Orengo, Mashujaa Day was celebrated as a testament to Kenyans' shared values and aspirations. Orengo commended the government for acknowledging Raila Odinga as a national hero and providing him with a fitting farewell.
