Post: Students urged to embrace digital literacy studies

Teachers and learners have been urged to incorporate digital literacy in their school programmes to enhance their overall skill set.Speaking at Nginda Mixed Secondary School in Maragua Constituency during the issuance of laptops to the institution, the area Member of Parliament Mary Wamaua observed that digital skills are a must-have as they help one come up with creative solutions to modern-day problems.'Acquiring digital skills right from secondary schools ought to be an integral part of learning as it transforms the way we communicate and creates adaptability to the work environment when out of school,' she noted.'Digital skills will also help harness your creativity and innovation to access the numerous career opportunities available across the globe with the touch of a button.'The learners were further urged to use the web space to gather educational and informational resources to help improve on their skills in and out of class.Wamaua noted that the internet is a treasure of information and e ducational tools but should be used cautiously to avoid eroding good morals by visiting sites that do not encourage positive learning.She reiterated the government's commitment towards ensuring that all learners in Kenya get access to quality education, as this is the only solution to many of the social vices crippling society.'I urge you to work hard in your studies; do not be discouraged because there are numerous opportunities awaiting you once you are through with education,' she said.'The education system teaches you how to obtain and develop critical thinking, which is paramount in solving most life problems, so take your education seriously.
