Nairobi: Traders in Lodwar are set to benefit from the construction of 35 new stalls under the third phase of the ongoing stall installation project by the County Department of Trade and Cooperatives. Speaking at the site handover, Deputy Director for Trade Wilson Ejie assured traders of the county's commitment to deliver the project within the stipulated schedule.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Deputy Director emphasized the importance of maintaining quality, stating that the County will not tolerate any shoddy works. Public Works Engineer Amos Lokaale confirmed that the contractor had already mobilized equipment and teams to begin the construction immediately. 'Our technical team will closely supervise every stage of the project to ensure that the stalls meet the required standards and are delivered on time,' he affirmed.
California Market Committee Chairperson Samson Lokai Lomilo welcomed the development and expressed gratitude to the county government for prioritizing the needs of traders. 'We thank the county government for providing these additional stalls. I request that the works be expedited so that traders can resume their business operations as soon as possible,' he said.
Trader Hadija Ngipeyok called for inclusivity in opportunities arising from the project. 'I urge the county to prioritize youth and women when offering job opportunities during the construction. I also appeal for the installation of street lights around the market to curb insecurity and allow traders to operate late into the night,' she stated.
The 35 additional stalls are expected to boost business capacity at the California Market, which serves as a key commercial hub in the heart of Lodwar town. County officials present included Samuel Ekeno (Senior trade officer), Achuka Lucas (Procurement officer), Andrew Namewa Nadio (Accountant), John Mark Eregae (Structural Engineer), and Rebecca Nakali (MandE officer).
