Tunisia seeks to establish comprehensive and sustainable strategic partnership with Algeria, PM says in Algiers

Correspondent/Leila Ben Brahim) - Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani stressed Tunisia's commitment to further strengthening relations between the two countries during his meeting with Algerian Prime Minister Aymen Ben Abderrahmane in Algiers on Tuesday. Tunisia is seeking to establish a comprehensive and sustainable strategic partnership based on mutual interests, injecting new dynamism into bilateral cooperation and formulating feasible visions within the framework of the desired partnership. During the meeting, the Prime Minister praised the "deep and long-standing fraternal ties" that bind the two countries and their peoples, and expressed his satisfaction with the level of coordination and consultation between the leaderships and various senior officials of the two nations. He also expressed his pride at being on Algerian soil during his first official visit to co-chair with his Algerian counterpart the 22nd session of the Tunisian-Algerian High Joint Commission. He stressed the importance of this meeting as an additional building block in bilateral relations and hoped that its results would help to overcome the obstacles hindering bilateral cooperation in various sectors. For his part, the Algerian Prime Minister stressed the need to step up efforts to open up new horizons for fruitful cooperation between the two countries and to address existing challenges, including the development of trade and partnership, particularly with African countries. Prime Minister Hachani had arrived earlier in the day at Houari Boumediene airport in Algeria, accompanied by a ministerial delegation, where they were received by the Algerian Prime Minister and the Ministers of the Interior, Finance, Industry, Trade, Transport and Labour. They then proceeded to the Martyrs' Memorial in the Algerian capital, where they laid wreaths and recited al-Fatiha in memory of the noble martyrs. This is Hachani's first visit abroad since taking office at the beginning of August. His delegation includes eight ministers: Kamel Feki (Interior), Nabil Ammar (Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad), Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia (Finance), Samir Saied (Economy and Planning), Malek Ezzahi (Social Affairs), Kalthoum Ben Rjeb (Trade and Export Development), Rabie Mjidi (Transport) and Mohamed Moez Belhassen (Tourism). In addition to the meeting of the High Joint Commission, the agenda for the visit includes the opening of an economic forum with business leaders from both countries and bilateral meetings with the Algerian Prime Minister. Tunisia considers the 22nd session of the Tunisian-Algerian High Joint Commission convened after six years since the last session in 2017, as an important milestone in bilateral cooperation. It represents an additional step towards strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various fields, with a view to eventually achieving the desired status of a cooperative and effective strategic partnership.
