Tunis: The 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which is being held from July 21 to 31, in New Delhi (India), is examining 27 files of nominations for inscription on the World Heritage List as well as the state of conservation of 124 sites already inscribed on the World Heritage List, 57 of which are on the list of World Heritage in Danger.A UNESCO source told TAP, that none of the Tunisian sites is on the agenda of the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee. Yet, "several reports on the state of conservation of Tunisian sites will be examined by the World Heritage Committee next year, at its 47th session, in accordance with the decisions made by the Committee at its 45th session in 2023."Until now, the World Heritage Committee has inscribed 1,199 sites (168 countries) on the World Heritage List, including Tunisia with nine sites: the Amphitheatre of El Jem, the Medina of Tunis, the Archaeological Site of Carthage, the Ichkeul National Park, the Punic City of Kerkouane and its Necrop olis, Kairouan, the Medina of Sousse, Dougga / Thugga, and most recently "Djerba: testimony of a mode of occupation of an island territory."Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
