Nairobi: Kirinyaga County Commissioner Hussein Allasow has urged youths to remain alert and take advantage of job opportunities available in both government and private sectors. Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Rurii Primary School in Mwea West, Kirinyaga County, Allasow assured young people that they have equal chances as other Kenyans to secure employment, provided they meet the required qualifications.
According to Kenya News Agency, Allasow revealed that the government recently conducted interviews in Mwea West Sub-County targeting unemployed university and technical graduates with construction-related skills, leading to the recruitment of 157 youths into the Affordable Housing Project. He emphasized that all qualified youths should take advantage of upcoming opportunities, mentioning the transparent and fair process for the Kenya Defence Forces recruitment at Kandongu on October 23. Those who meet the requirements will be considered.
He encouraged youths to actively seek such chances rather than wait for employment to come to them, adding that the government is keen on empowering young people through national development projects. The County Commissioner also emphasized that peace and unity are key to attracting investors to the agriculturally rich county, which will, in turn, create more employment opportunities.
On road safety, Allasow issued a stern warning to reckless miraa drivers using the Embu-Makutano highway, saying the government will implement strict measures to curb accidents and safeguard residents as the festive season approaches. He added that while the government supports farmers to boost agricultural production, safety on the roads must not be compromised.
Wamumu Ward MCA Peter Njiru urged the government to prioritize improvement of feeder roads in the area, noting that poor infrastructure continues to inconvenience residents, especially during the rainy season.
