Zetech University Wins Innovation Award for Transformative Initiatives

Mombasa: Zetech University has been honored with an innovation award by the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) in Mombasa, recognizing the significant impact of the institution's initiatives led by its Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology (iZET) Hub.

According to Kenya News Agency, the iZET Hub, which serves as the university's flagship innovation center, has spearheaded initiatives like the Wezesha Incubation Programme. This program has equipped learners with essential mentorship, resources, and industry connections to transform innovative ideas into viable business ventures. The Vice Chancellor of Zetech University, Prof. Njenga Munene, expressed that this recognition is a testament to the students' resilience, creativity, and ingenuity in driving innovation.

Prof. Munene, speaking after receiving the award, praised the iZET Hub for enabling students to create solutions to real-world problems through various programs, including hackathons, mentorship forums, and community engagement projects. These efforts have fostered entrepreneurial mindsets and digital skills, leading to a measurable social impact and contributing to national development. He emphasized that the iZET Hub demonstrates the powerful role universities can play as engines of innovation and expressed optimism about the future, driven by the students' determination and creativity.

The Vice Chancellor also noted that the award supports broader national goals of promoting grassroots innovation through strengthened collaboration between academia and industry. At the CEIL Summit, with the theme 'Catalyzing Innovation and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems,' Mr. Felix Koskei, Head of Public Service, advocated for the creation of student-led innovation clubs in universities to further nurture innovation.

Among the notable innovations at Zetech University are an electric tuk tuk and motorbike designed to encourage sustainable transportation, alongside advanced security solutions that limit unauthorized access to premises.
