A clash between two clans competing for the chiefdom of Bassi, caused 9 injuries, the burning of around fifteen houses and led to the displacement of populations on August 3, 2024, we learned the AIB.On the morning of August 3, 2024, around 7 a.m., the royal court of Bassi was the scene of a clash between two groups vying for the throne of the canton of Bassi.According to consistent sources, it all started on the night of Friday August 2, 2024, when a group of people kidnapped the current occupant of the palace, whom they took to the Gourcy gendarmerie.Informed of the situation, the victim's supporters carried out a forceful raid on the palace, where they found certain members of the group of kidnappers, armed mainly with clubs.According to testimonies, it was the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) who arrived in time to avoid the worst. No loss of life has been reported, however, at least 9 injured were recorded and treated at the Bassi health center.In retaliation, concessions and property belonging to the group of kidnappers were ransacked, forcing them to take refuge in a neighboring village.Later, Gourcy security forces, reinforced by elements from Ouahigouya, intervened to calm the situation and carry out arrests.But before their arrival, 16 houses had already been affected.According to other sources, another chief enthroned by the king of Yatenga in July 2023 was unable to access the royal court, because he was preceded by his rival.For the moment, the victim of the kidnapping has returned to the palace and negotiations are underway to allow the displaced to return to their homes with complete peace of mind.Currently, calm has returned, and the alleged perpetrators of the violence, who have been arrested, are waiting to learn their fate at the Ouahigouya High Court (TGI).Bassi is the capital of the commune of the same name, located approximately 25 kilometers northeast of the town of Gourcy.Source : Burkina Information Agency
