Zondoma: Members of the technical committee of the Zondoma Provincial Food Security Council convened their initial session of 2025 at the Gourcy High Commission. The meeting centered on the food, nutritional, and humanitarian security situations within the province.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the food security scenario in Zondoma is deemed satisfactory due to the availability of cereals and a downward trend in market prices. This conclusion was reached during the ordinary session held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in Gourcy. The session was chaired by Anatole Pengdwende Kabore, the Secretary General of the province, and revolved around the theme of enhancing the resilience of rural populations to food and nutritional insecurity, especially considering the circumstances surrounding territorial reconquest and the needs of returnees.
Three presentations shaped the discussions. Laurent Zoungrana from the Provincial Directorate in charge of agriculture and animal and fisheries resources presented the first topic, which reviewed the agro-pastoral campaign mid-term and the current food security status in the province. Good distribution of rainfall and support provided to producers, including plowing, seeds, fertilizers, and phytosanitary products, were highlighted as positive indicators for an upcoming successful harvest. The availability and lowering prices of cereal products in the market also suggest that Zondoma's population is safeguarded against food insecurity.
Further presentations on the nutritional and humanitarian landscape were delivered by Dr. Constantin Bationo, Physician and Head of the Gourcy Health District, along with Jacques Herman Soubeiga, the provincial director in charge of humanitarian action. They highlighted the province's challenges with internally displaced persons and returnees. The discussions led by Marie Theodora Kyelem, Provincial Director of Agriculture, Animal Resources, and Fisheries, resulted in recommendations urging development actors to support returnees with income-generating activities, prioritize them for social-priced food sales, and rehabilitate social facilities in their areas.
The Provincial Food Security Council (CPSA) is tasked with fostering dialogue and collaboration among local stakeholders to prevent and manage food and nutritional crises.
