Post: Burkina Faso’s Push for Improved Local Governance Through Decentralization

Ouagadougou: The General Assembly on Decentralization began on Wednesday under the leadership of Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, focusing on the theme: "What decentralization for local development and a better contribution to securing the territory?"

According to Burkina Information Agency, several government officials, including Adama Luc SORGHO, Minister of Infrastructure and Access to Landlocked Areas, participated in the event, underscoring the significance of this initiative for his ministry. The assembly aims to address the critical role of infrastructure development and territorial accessibility as foundational elements for local development and territorial security.

The Prime Minister highlighted the urgency of aligning decentralization efforts with the current realities of Burkina Faso. He called on participants to devise actionable solutions that would bolster community resilience and enhance local governance. The outcomes of this gathering, which will continue until September 12, are expected to yield impactful recommendations for a comprehensive reform of the country's decentralization strategy.
