Nairobi: Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba has announced that the government is actively working with schools that received insufficient capitation to address a glitch in the disbursement process. Speaking at the inaugural graduation ceremony at Riragia Technical and Vocational College (TVC) in Marani Sub County, CS Ogamba acknowledged the possibility of errors in schools that received Sh86 or Sh84 and assured that the Ministry is in contact with the affected schools to resolve the issue.
According to Kenya News Agency, CS Ogamba urged any head teacher or principal who received significantly less funding than expected to reach out to the Sub County and Ministry teams for assistance. This year marks the first time the government has released the capitation for the second term in May, a departure from previous years when funds were disbursed later.
CS Ogamba also reassured parents that the government would cover examination fees. Last month, the government disbursed Sh21 billion in capitation to public schools. Typically, the funds are distributed in three phases: 50 percent in term one, 30 percent in term two, and 20 percent in term three.
